Losing pounds

// May 22nd, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Diet and Exercise

I’ve started on the Atkins diet again. Back in the early 2000’s I did it and lost almost 4 stone. Then had a relationship breakdown and ate myself to fat again.

Anyway, I’ve decided for the last time that I’m too humongous and need to get bcak down to within a few pounds of my ideal weight. So, I’ve been on said diet for 5 days. I’ve cheated through 2 days of it - having copious amounts of cider. And I’ve lost 2 lbs. This is good. I’m going to head down the gym this weekend and hope to lose 3 by the end of 7 days.

By Christmas I want to be 12 stone. It will be a very uphill battle.

By next Christmas I want to be on the cover of Mens Health.

Changing opinion - kids…

// May 9th, 2009 // No Comments » // Random Stuff

No, I’ve not gone mental and decided I want one/many of the little creatures - HOWEVER - for some time I’ve held the opinion that kids today are very lucky. They have playstations to make them stupid and unhealthy, they have junk food to make them fat and unhealthy, they have political correctness so that they can get away with murder while being unhealthy… It seems like todays generation of young people are truly blessed. If albeit unhealthy.

However, that said I’ve just been on The Facebook generally nosing around and a friend of mine has posted a few photos of his kids - so I thought “awww… cute - and good photo.” and clicked to take a closer look. MY GOD those are cute kids… but he has a whole album full of them - this isn’t necessarily a bad thing as they are, again, cute kids, BUT, it does allow you to see how those children have grown and looked appallingly cute pretty much since they left the birth canal! Again, not such a bad thing, until you realise this will continue well into their late teens.

Do you know the kind of stupid shit that kids do before they learn to not do stupid shit? The kind of appalling badness (and madness) that at the time the average 12 year old thinks is hip and cool? All of it, ALL OF IT, caught on camera for the world to later look at on Flickr (or whatever Flickr will be called in 20 years).

Even MY parents have a few photos of me scattered around … and over the years have tried their hardest (and succeeded in most cases) to make me blush with photos of me looking retarded as an 8 year old - can you imagine how easy the revolution of digital photography is going to make it for parents of the future to fucking anihilate their children through embarrassment? I’ll tell you how easy - they won’t even need to try. It’s going to be like shooting fish in a barrel. Kids of the future will have no girlfriends. Digital photography will spell the end of civilisation.

My god I’m glad I grew up in an analogue era. And have managed to accidently burn most of the photos ever taken of me.

Star Trek

// May 7th, 2009 // No Comments » // Reviews

The first movie of the year to live up to the hype. As a die hard trekkie there was always a chance I’d hate it - but I think that it works on both the level of long term fans and also those that are looking for a really great science fiction story.

If you’re a fan of the original series then there are some epic funny moments, and the guy who plays Bones is genius casting - in fact the only real let down (but from an under-utilisation angle, not from him being shit) was Simon Pegg’s ‘Scotty’. The story is great, the acting is great, the effects are great.

I honestly loved this movie. And then they played a reworked ToS theme over the end credits and made the whole thing perfect.
